GASTONIA -- A Gastonia food bank is preparing to shut down next month because of limited supplies. B.R.E.A.D. Incorporated will be closed April 1 to 7.

Dorothy Lowery is B.R.E.A.D. Inc.'s president. She said she hopes to gather donations and replenish empty shelves while they're closed.

She said the organization is having a hard time keeping up with growing demand.

“We are getting a bit low again but we are just praying that the Lord will let it come in,” said Lowery. “Of course we get on the telephone and start calling, some contributors that do help us.”

B.R.E.A.D. Inc. assists 250 to 400 people a day. The charity assisted more than 20,000 people in 2012. Lowery said demand has tripled in the last few months.

She said they could donations of food, money, and even a building.

The organization is located in a warehouse on Franklin Boulevard. Lowery said the building leaks and is currently for sale.
