Illinois egg farmers donated 57,000 eggs to the Northern
Illinois Food Bank on Thursday. The donation from Pearl Valley Eggs and
Mussmans Back Acres Inc. is a part of a national effort of the United
Egg Producers, which has donated more than 12 million eggs across the
nation.
“It’s going to go a long way,†said Sarah Slavenas, communications
manager of the Northern Illinois Food Bank. “We serve 61,600 people each
week. Anytime we get a sizable donation, especially given Rockford’s
high unemployment rate, we are very excited.â€
This is the third year that the United Egg Producers have donated more
than 12 million eggs nationwide. According to Slavenas, it is the
largest egg donation the NIFB has received.
