The City of Stoughton Food Pantry serves clients residing within the Stoughton Area School District. The Food Pantry follows state and federal guidelines on income levels to qualify for The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) or commodities distribution. If a resident is not eligible under the income guidelines, emergency food is available upon referral. Referral agencies are First Call for Help, Dane County Human Services, Eldercare, HeadStart, Stoughton Area School District, Stoughton Area Senior Center, and local churches.
Identification and proof of address for all members of the household are required for first-time clients. Thereafter, identification for the person listed on the TEFAP form is required each month, and identification for each member of the household is required again at the first visit in April. Accepted forms of identification include birth certificate, copy of court order stating custody, lease agreement, utility bill, almost any item of mail showing proof of residency, report card, health insurance card, social security card (if volunteered), voter registration card, etc.
Usage of the Food Pantry is every thirty days. The food received will provide meals for approximately seven to ten days. A three (3) day emergency food supply will be available if a client runs out of food before the thirty days are up.
Some of the standard food items we try to provide include: soup, tuna, canned vegetables, and fruit, pork and beans, canned meals (stew, hash, chili, Spaghettios, etc.), peanut butter, jelly, pancake mix and syrup, spaghetti sauce, spaghetti, macaroni, macaroni and cheese, Hamburger or Tuna Helper, meals-in-a-box (Rice-a-Roni, Pasta-Roni, pasta and sauce meals, etc.), instant potatoes or rice, soda crackers, Jell-O and pudding mixes, muffin mixes, canned juices, and cereal. Bar soap and toilet tissue are included. We also provide meats, milk, eggs, yogurt, and other dairy products when available.
We can sometimes provide the following extras as a result of donations: baking supplies, catchup, mayonnaise, gravies, coffee, tea, Asian or Mexican foods, pie filling, honey, biscuit mixes, cake mixes, and brownie mixes.
Personal care items we can provide when donated include: toothpaste and toothbrushes, shampoo, deodorant, disposable razors, lotions, Kleenex, diapers, paper towels, napkins, laundry products, and dish soap.
